If you’re someone who suffers badly from hangovers, these supplements may be exactly what you need.

With so many new products on coming onto the market, we thought it’s a good time to test out Morning Recovery Drink.

Every brand claims to be the best and morning recovery go all-out to push their ingredients as superior compared to the others.

But is it really the best product out there?

To find out, we’re going to take a closer look at the company reputation, customer reviews and most crucially, their ingredient list.

Company background

Sisun and Misha are the co-founders of morning recovery and left their jobs at Tesla and Uber respectively to launch their product.

Sisun first had the idea after testing similar products in South Korea.

Apparently hangover drinks and pills are a well established thing out there.

After their impressive $250k Indiegogo funding round, they secured a further $8 million from venture capital firms.

There’s one thing that’s certain – they’re definitely the richest hangover supplement company around….by a long shot.

As a result, they’ve taken the market by storm and have made it into the mainstream media.

If you know that hangover supplements exist, chances are you’ve heard of morning recovery.

They made $1 million worth of sales in the first 3 months of being on the shelves.

When it comes to successful company launches, it doesn’t really get much better than that.

That being said, it doesn’t matter how much money they have. The key factor is deciding whether Morning Recovery Drink works.

And to do that we need to see exactly what’s in it.

Morning recovery drink ingredients

Looking at the ingredient list, the first thing we notice is that they use a proprietary blend which is not a good start.

morning recovery drink ingredients label

Proprietary blends are a pre-made mix of ingredients where you don’t actually know how much of each extract is included.

Why do manufacturers use proprietary blends?

The answer is simple: to cut costs and increase margins.

Proprietary blends are much cheaper to produce.

Sometimes manufacturers say they use a proprietary blend to conceal their “secret formula”, but thats simply a marketing ploy.

There are plenty of good manufacturers who avoid proprietary blends.

Unfortunately Morning recovery doesn’t seem to be one of them.

With that out the way, lets breakdown their ingredient list.

Dihydromyricetin (DHM)

Morning recovery have build their whole formula around this ingredient.

Studies have reported that DHM can speed up alcohol breakdown and reduce alcohols intoxicating effects.

They also claim that their DHM is the best because its absorbed better than capsule form.

Although there’s no clear explanation why and how.

So for now we’ll have to trust their word and wait for the “patent-pending technology”.

Red ginseng extract

A study on 25 men has shown that red ginseng reduced hangover symptoms compared to placebo.

Once again its a promising result however more research needs to be done with a much larger test group with the inclusion of women of course!

Prickly pear extract

This has been shown in one small study to reduce hangover symptoms in human subjects.

The results are promising but needs more research.

Vitamin C

Aside from is function in connective tissues and the immune system, it also acts as an antioxidant so we like to see its inclusion in a hangover supplement.

B-vitamins

B-vitamins are crucial in any hangover drink.

They are the precursors to many of the enzymes produced in your liver to breakdown food and drink, including alcohol.

Magnesium

Alcohol is a diuretic which means it makes you pee more fluid than you’re consuming.

Along with water, you also lose essential minerals like magnesium.

We like that morning recovery have included it in their drink, albeit at a very small 40mg dose which is 10% of the daily requirement.

Milk thistle

People have been using milk thistle for hangover prevention for years.

It’s a powerful antioxidant and some studies have shown it can reduce liver inflammation.

What’s missing?

Ginger

Nausea is arguably one of the worst symptoms of a hangover and can be debilitating for some.

Ginger is one of the best known anti-sickness remedies there is.

So we were disappointed to see its omission in Morning Recovery.

Turmeric

Known for its anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric is used worldwide for reducing aches and pains.

Hangover headaches can be a real issue so any ingredient that specifically targets this is a must.

Piperine

Piperine is actually extracted from black pepper and is known to be a “bio-availability enhancer”.

This ingredient doesn’t do anything for hangovers directly but instead increases the amount of other ingredients absorbed from your gut.

How does morning recovery work?

morning recovery drink

So now that we’ve looked at the ingredients, we’re in a better position to explain how morning recovery works .

Its function is the same as the other leading products on the market – hangover prevention.

bear with me on this:

Your liver metabolizes alcohol into toxic waste products.

The main one is called acetaldehyde.

Acetaldehyde is a highly reactive molecule which is also known as a “free radical”.

It damages the cells it comes into contact with.

Morning recovery drink is designed to supply your liver with antioxidants so that it can help clear free radicals before they cause too much damage.

How do you take morning recovery?

You take one bottle after your last drink.

You can also use it as a mixer with your spirit at some point towards the end of your night.

It’s essential that its taken as this time and not the following day as it’ll be useless.

Once you’re hungover the damage is already done.

There’s nothing more that can be done apart from giving your body time to heal.

What does morning recovery taste like?

Its lemon flavored.

It’ll also have a slight metallic taste to it because of the added minerals.

Morning recovery has also released a new sugar free version which is good if you’re trying to cut back on the calories.

What if you don’t like lemon flavored drinks?

Well – there’s no other flavor options I’m afraid.

Are there any side effects?

Morning recovery only use natural ingredients and avoid stimulants.

Therefore overall it’s safe to take.

However, as will all supplements, you should read the label carefully as you may have an intolerance to some of the herbal extracts included.

If you do experience any side effects, you should stop taking it and discuss with your physician.

How much does it cost?

Morning recovery costs $35 for 6 bottles (i.e 6 nights out) and $60 for 12 bottles.

Compared to hangover pills, its a fair bit more expensive.

Morning Recovery Drink Reviews

At the time of writing they have 365 reviews on Amazon with an average of 4.0 out of 5LEAN--0.

There are positive reviews saying morning recovery made them wake up with less of a hangover and were able to be more productive with their day.

They also have 76, one star reviews saying the that morning recovery either didn’t work at all, or made them feel much worse with a stomach ache.

Some people also really didn’t like the taste of it which is particularly a problem with supplements that you have to drink.

Morning Recovery Drink vs Hangover Pills

Morning recovery very confidently claim to be the best hangover supplement on the market.

They are very proud that their product comes in the form of a drink and emphasize that their mode of delivery is better compared to hangover pills.

After taking a closer look at their product and website, we can’t see any real evidence that they are any better than the best hangover pills on the market.

In fact, some of the top hangover supplements have everything that morning recovery does plus a few more essential ingredients.

Furthermore, their claims that they are the best aren’t really backed up by the customer reviews.

Also, travelling with several bottles of morning recovery can be a pain.In all fairness, they’ve reduced the size of their latest bottles to accommodate for this.

However it’s still significantly more difficult than carrying a small bottle of hangover pills around.

Is this the best hangover supplement for me?

Morning Recovery is certainly a decent option if you’re looking for a hangover drink with a reputable brand.

That being said, we don’t currently rate it as one of the very best supplements on the market right now in this category.

That’s mainly because:

  • It uses a proprietary blend to hide the doses of a lot of the main ingredients on the label.
  • It’s difficult to transport on holiday.

Carrying 6 or more bottles in a suitcase is far from ideal.
  • It costs almost $6 per bottle which is far more expensive than alternatives.
  • We would prefer taking capsules which are much easier to take rather than more fluid at the end of the night.
  • They miss out on a few key ingredients such as ginger and piperine which are really important in a hangover prevention supplement.

Anything else to consider?

When it comes to hangover prevention, common sense still applies.

If you’re drinking until you’re completely wasted, then morning recovery along with any other hangover supplement just wont work.

You’ll still need to drink plenty of water throughout your night and also avoid drinking on an empty stomach.

Just remember that hangover supplements are generally there to support recovery, not completely block or cure the negative effects of alcohol.

Conclusion

That brings us to the end of our Morning Recovery Drink review.

Overall, we think that this is an OK supplement that has some good ingredients to help support hangover recovery.

However, we feel that this product is ultimately let down by the fact that it uses a proprietary blend, misses out a few key ingredients and comes in a drink form.

And for those reason, we don’t currently rate it as one of the absolute best hangover prevention supplements on sale right now.
