There’s a huge surge of Nootropics supplements coming to the market lately, and I have been personally overwhelmed with review requests. This market literally seemed to take off overnight, and it is quickly emerging as one of the fastest growing segments of the supplements market. One supplement I recently got a chance to test out is called Phenibut XT, which is the focus of this review. The makers of this supplement, Serious Nutrition Solutions, sent me a sample pack of 6 capsules to test out, that of which I just finished testing.
As always, if you would like to skip to the nitty gritty details of my results with Phenibut XT, then just Click Here .

What is Phenibut XT?
Labeled as an all natural nootropic supplement, Phenibut XT is intended to help promote relaxation, support your overall mood, and induce restful sleep. It does this through the use of only one ingredient that goes by the same name. The chemical compound is officially called beta-phenyl-gamma-aminobutyric, which is actually a derivative of the naturally occuring inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA.
One capsule of Phenibut XT contains 500 mg, and typical daily doses can go as high as 2000 mg (4 capsules), although it’s recommended you start off with one pill to assess your tolerance.
Here’s a snapshot of the ingredients label:
Since I take alot of nootropics that have stimulants in them, I noticed I was having difficulty sleeping at night. I would often lie awake for hours after turning the lights off, and some nights I would wake up several times. I tried taking a wide variety of sleep aids, and while they would often put me to sleep easily, I would often wake up the next day feeling groggy and tired throughout the day.
When I saw that Phenibut XT was a nootropic supplement that helped to support restful sleep, I figured why not give it a shot. Since I’ve never taken phenibut before, I decided to take 1 capsule (500mg / .5 g) around 7:30 pm, which is about 3 1/2 hours before my usual bedtime. I “feel” as though I started feeling the effects within the first 15 min., but that might have been a placebo effect.
About an hour into it I had a “slight” dizzy / light headed feeling when I got up too fast, but that quickly wore off. I did start to notice I felt very calm and relaxed, but not to the point where I was drowsy or falling asleep (which, I might add, is very difficult to NOT do in my giant recliner). A few hours later I made my way upstairs and started reading a book.
Within about 10 minutes I started to get pretty tired and decided to turn in for the night. If I had to guess, it took me about 15 min. to fall asleep but I ended up waking up once through the night (around 3 am) to take a piss. I fell back asleep with no problems, and woke up feeling great. However, about 3 hours later I started to hit a wall and got pretty tired/foggy. I decided to up the dosage the next night to 2 capsules.
On the 2nd day, I decided to take 1 capsule at around 5:30 pm on an empty stomach. Mind you I was in sort of a bad mood for most of the day, feeling mostly sluggish and unable to get any work done. About an hour after taking it I noticed a significant improvement in my mood, and overall just felt more relaxed. It felt like it was starting to wear off about 3 hours after taking that first capsule, so I decided to take another one at around 8:30.
Keep in mind that the “supposed” half-life for Phenibut is about 5 hours, which basically means every 5 hours the supplements potency is cut in half.
The “feel good” feeling returned and this time stuck around for much longer. I went to bed around 11:30 pm and ended up waking around 8:30 am, and I gotta say I felt GREAT! The effects seemed to last through most of the day without even taking another pill, which was a plus.
I decided to take another 2 capsules later on that evening and felt the same effects. At this point I was down to 1 pill, and figured it probably wouldn’t do much to take it so I decided to just let it wear off and see if there was any come down effects. Surprisingly, I didn’t feel any major crash or anything, and my mood was pretty well enhanced for most of the weekend.
Phenibut XT Vs. Other Brands
I’ve been testing out a lot of different brands of Phenibut to see which one works the best. In theory, they should all work the same, right? Well, what I noticed was some brands worked great, while others I got practically no effect.
One recent one I tried is sold by a company called AbsorbYourHealth.com. They specialize in selling a wide variety of nootropic supplements, and have a GREAT reputation of providing high quality products.
I gave it a shot and the effects we TREMENDOUSLY different when compared to Phenibut XT. Because it is sold in powder form instead of capsules, you’re able to control the dose a bit more accurately then with the capsules of phenibut xt.
Sure, you can break open the capsules, but if you don’t have a scale it’s tough to estimate how much you’re taking. AbsorbYourHealth.com includes a small 500 mg scoop with all their orders, so it’s a bit easier to eyeball how much you’re taking.
Combine it with a cognitive enhancer like Optimind and the result will be the closest thing to adderall that I have ever come across.

Phenibut XT WARNING – Recent Side Effects
So, originally when I posted this review, I had only decided to take the supplement for a total of 3 days, which is close to the manufacturers recommendation of a 5 days on, 2 days off cycle. After casually reading through some other forums out there about using Phenibut XT for an extended period of time, I decided to try a 10 day long experiment.
Now, I realize this is against Phenibut XT’s recommendation, as was evident by the warning on the label.
but other users were reporting better nootropic success with a longer duration of supplementation.
This time around I started off with a 500 mg dose first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. I waited about an hour before I ate anything and took another capsule about 3 hours later. Later on in the evening (I guess around 6 pm or so), I took another 500 mg. I actually did this for about 3 days straight, and the nootropic effects were ENORMOUS.
I got a great nights sleep and felt invigorated in the morning, but I also felt a HUGE surge in productivity and focus. I felt like I could accomplish very mundane tasks in a very short period of time, and often happily doing work I would normally consider very boring. However, this is when the comedown started to kick in…
When I first started taking Phenibut XT I didn’t realize the full withdrawal potentials, until now. Here I am, about 10 days in and 18 total grams consumed, and I feel freakin weird, mainly in a bad way. After last Sunday, I decided to take the rest of the week off from Phenibut to “retrain my system”. I didn’t take any on Monday, and to be honest, I felt totally fine.
There was no afterglow effect which I had read about on various forums, but I didn’t feel like I was withdrawing from anything. Later on that evening I got into bed, and fell asleep relatively easily. About 4 am, I wake up to take a piss, and feel COMPLETELY and UTTERLY disorientated. Now, mind you, I have blackout shades in my bedroom which effectively “shut out” all light sources. But, I have NEVER, EVER felt like this before.
I take my piss, get back into bed, and literally just laid there completely wide awake. After about an hour of tossing and turning, I just decided “what the hell, I might as well get up”. I felt weird, almost in a trance like state. Too tired to stay awake, but unable to fall asleep. Truly an uncomfortable experience…a condition known as insomnia if you never heard of it 🙂
A few hours later I decided to take 1 500 mg capsule in an effort to “take the edge off”, and within hours was actually feeling pretty good. I didn’t experience the mental fog I had in the morning, and things seemed to be getting better throughout the day. That night, I got to sleep relatively easily, but again woke up at 4 am, right on the nose. What woke me up? I had a nightmare, and all I remember was that I was pissing blood…yeah, that’s not good. This time, however, I was lucky and fell back asleep relatively quickly.
The next day (Wednesday), I was heading down to a local car dealership to pick up a car to test drive for a few hours, and I had a sense of anxiety kind of creep over me. I don’t normally feel anxious, in fact I’m usually a very level headed guy, but it was an inescapable feeling.
A feeling of dread, almost. I picked up the car and drove around for a bit, feeling fine when not in a social situation (like a car dealership).
I got home, went onto my computer to do some quick research on the car, and decided “WTF, let me take another 500 mg”. After all, in about 2 hours I would probably be negotiating a new car, so I didn’t want to be social awkward or anxious. Buying a car is anxious enough, I didn’t need it to be worsened.
An hour or so later I felt completely fine, back to the same old talkative guy I normally am, utterly and totally socially-free.
As I type this, it’s 2:30 am (Thursday)….I am NEVER up this late, and haven’t been for years. I can’t sleep because every time I lay down and am just about to fall asleep, I jerk myself awake and end up staring at the ceiling for the next hour.
I’ve decided I’m going to go cold-turkey off of this stuff, which from all the research I’ve been doing is probably the best way to go. From what I’ve read, tapering off with lower doses just seems to extend the withdrawal symptoms. I have no one to blame but myself, because I simply didn’t follow the instructions on the label or from what I researched.
I’m sure it will pass soon, and I hope it does so pretty damn quickly! I will try to update this again in a few days to let everyone know how it turned out.

Where Can You Buy Phenibut XT?
Phenibut XT is available on a wide variety of online retail sites, including the SeriousNutritionSolutions.com website, DPS Nutrition, BQ Turner Health, and A1 supplements. The average price for a one month supply (90 capsules) is about $20, which puts it in the fairly cheap department.
If you DO decide to try out Phenibut XT, I would recommend you follow the dosing schedule in the infographic below.
If your in the market for something that helps improve the quality of your sleep and make you feel more relaxed, then Phenibut XT is definitely worth a try. It’s cheap enough to not break the bank, and based on my own personal results I think it can work great. I would recommend that you only take this on an “as needed” basis to avoid building a tolerance, and be sure to take the equivalent time off as long as you are on it. By that I mean if you take it for 3 days straight, then you should take off for 3 days straight before taking any more. Don’t be an idiot like me and take it for more then a few days without taking a PROPER break.

I've been taking SNS Phenibut 500 mg. capsules for about 3 years.
I take 3 500 mg. capsules on an empty stomach at the beginning of the day, eating a little food about an hour late.
Twice a week, sometimes 3 X.
SNS Focus XT ( 1 scoop ) stacks tremendously well with the Phenibut and puts me in some of the best moods I've ever had.
Just in case you don't know, Phenibut passes through the blood brain barrier. It calms down your GABA-B receptors which slows down all the distracting, rapid - firing neurons that keep your brain from relaxing.
Phenibut lets you live in the moment and pay full attention to "now" instead of getting anxious about little irritating things.

Is that a barbiturate -Joshua
It's not. It's got some similar properties, but it's a derivative of GABA and while it relaxes you, it doesn't cause drowsiness.- Rob
