I’m not someone who typically suffers from anxiety or insomnia, but like most folks I have my good and bad days. Up until recently, if I had a hard time falling asleep or felt anxious, I would simply write it off and deal with it.

However, in the interest of helping my readers find something that can help in this area, I decided to do a bit of research. During my research, I came across a supplement called Kavinace, which is the focus of this review.

What is Kavinace?

kavinace review

Kavinace is an all natural supplement designed to help promote relief from anxiety / irritability, as well as help people suffering from insomnia and sleep issues. It’s marketed by a company called Neuroscience, and is sold almost exclusively online.

Its primary ingredient is 4-amino-3-phenylbutyric acid (also known as Phenibut), which is a GABA derivative that acts to inhibit excitatory transmitters in the brain. The theory is that it allows GABA to cross the blood brain barrier by adding a phenyl ring around it. (Source)

Typically GABA cannot do this on it’s own, at least in sufficient quantities.

Other ingredients in Kavinace include taurine, which is a potent antioxidant that products against toxicity from various substances, and Vitamin B6.

Frequently Asked Questions About Kavinace

How Should I Take Kavinace

According to the label, you should take 1-2 capsules two times daily, and you should not exceed 6 capsules per day. While the manufacturer recommends daily dosing, this it not a good idea.

You will learn exactly why below.

How Long Does Kavinace Take To Work?

I also don’t think you should take more then 1 or 2 capsules TOTAL throughout the day. Phenibut has a way of creeping up on you when you least expect it.

You could be feeling practically nothing and then 1/2 hr. later feel all the effects at once.

phenibut effects timeline

One thing I also noticed is the effects are MUCH more pronounced when you take it on a completely empty stomach.

I’m not sure as to why this is the case, but my theory is that the ingredients are simply absorbed faster / more efficiently when there’s nothing else your stomach has to work on.

What kind of feeling should I expect from taking Kavinace?

While everyone’s body chemistry / makeup is different, the general consensus among most is that it provides a feeling of relief from anxiety, makes you less irritable, and can help you sleep better.

One thing I want to note is that it seems to take a VERY long time to feel the effects, in some cases close to 5 or 6 hours.

I have no idea why it takes that long but that’s the effect I got from it.

Can I Take Kavinace With Alcohol?

This is NOT recommended.

The primary ingredient in Kavinace (Phenibut), increases the effects of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA in the brain.

This is exactly the same way that alcohol works, and drinking any alcohol whatsoever will simply intensify the effect.

There are all sorts of adverse reactions that can occur if you combine kavinace and alcohol, including:

  • Nausea / Vomiting
  • Extreme drowsiness / sedation
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Potential respiratory depression

If you don’t believe me, read this.

It’s also not recommended that you drive while taking this supplement until you can assess your individual tolerance.

Can I buy it in stores?

The answer is yes and no.

You can’t find Kavinace in large brick and mortar stores like GNC, Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, or Vitamin Shoppe. Amazon doesn’t seem to sell it either, and the primary ingredient (phenibut) has been placed on their known prohibited products list.

However, there are many smaller, locally-owned vitamin stores that sell it. I would run a quick search for something like “supplements store near me” and call around to a few local shops.

My Personal Results

I had a chance to try out Kavinace, and I have to say that I think it is a VERY potent supplement. Because I’ve taken products containing phenibut in the past, including Phenibut XT, Somatomax, and Tranquilene, I had an idea of what to expect as far as results.

The first time I took it was in the morning on a particularly stressful day at work. It took awhile to kick in, but the effect was there. I felt an increase in mood and just generally had a positive outlook on the day ahead. Things that would normally stress me out didn’t.

Later that day I took 1 more capsule about 2 hours before bed, and felt very relaxed while I watched TV. It’s a bit hard to describe, but it’s almost like feeling the buzz you get from drinking a couple of beers or glasses of wine, but without the mind-slowing effects.

That night I had a GREATnights sleep. Usually I’ll wake up once or twice throughout the night to use the bathroom, but not this night. I slept straight through and woke up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day.

What’s interesting about Kavinace (and supplements containing Phenibut in general) is that the effects seem to linger for most of the following day, even without re dosing.

This is sometimes referred to as an “afterglow” effect.

Kavinace Warnings

So a quick story is in order to let you know how I originally learned about Kavinace. I had been experimenting with a substance called Phenibut over the course of a few months, and everything was working great. The substance gave me a calm, relaxed feeling, but didn’t leave me drowsy during the day.

Combined with a stimulant like Optimind, Phenibut gave me intense concentration and focus, but kept me level-headed and cool. It essentially eliminated any of the anxiety inducing effects of the stimulant, allowing me to work for hours on end.

It even actually worked as a fairly potent pre-workout supplement. Often I would take it about 2 – 3 hours before my workouts, and found that I not only was working out harder, but I seemed to be more focused.

Potential Addiction Issues

Then, I started reading stories on forums and addiction treatment centers about the potential for addiction and withdrawal symptoms from prolonged use of Phenibut.

If you’ve been taking Kavinace for a prolonged period of time, some signs of an addiction may include:

  • Increased Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Paranoia
  • Aggression / Irritability
  • Insomnia
  • Cognitive deficit
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue

Uh ohhh…Anyway, after ceasing use of Phenibut and going through a short (but unpleasant) withdrawal period, I started to miss the effects that Phenibut was producing.

In my quest to find something that would work similar to Phenibut, but without the withdrawal dependency aspect, I visited a local mom and pop vitamin store.

When I entered the store I was greeted by the owner, and I asked her if she ever heard of Phenibut.

Her reply??

Oh no, I don’t mess with that stuff. Too many issues, I’ve read too many horror stories about withdrawal / dependency, etc.

I then told her I was looking for something to help relieve anxiety, help me sleep, etc., and she recommended Kavinace.

She said she takes it twice a day, 1 capsule in the morning and 1 in the evening, and has been for years.

I asked her if she ever experienced any side effects or withdrawal symptoms from abstaining from it. She told me that she’s only taken a few days off from it ever since she started taking it, and only noticed minimal withdrawal symptoms like being pissed off in traffic.

I bought a bottle and when I got home researched the ingredients (at the time I didn’t know Phenibut was called 4-amino-3-phenybutric acid), and wouldn’t you know it….4-amino-3-phenybutric acid is Phenibut.

I thought about calling her up and telling her that what she was taking is essentially Phenibut, but she seemed “out there” to begin with so I didn’t bother.

The dangers of taking Phenibut long term are there. I talk about this in detail in my official review of Phenibut, so I won’t touch on it here.

Pros

  • Works well to help relieve stress / anxiety
  • Can be conveniently bought online and in stores
  • Excellent for sleep
  • Can also provide nootropic clarity and concentration in small doses

Cons

  • Shouldn’t take it everyday, despite them telling you otherwise
  • Unknown exactly how much Phenibut it contains
  • Only available in small, local mom and pop vitamin stores

Recommendation

Does Kavinace work? I can say with a resounding YES. HOWEVER, taking Phenibut (or Kavinace) daily is a REALLY bad idea.

Not only does it have the potential to create REALLY bad withdrawal symptoms when you stop taking it, but Phenibut seems to build a tolerance very quickly.

Long term use should be avoided, but if you are looking to use it for just a short period of time then there is no reason that taking Kavinace should produce any negative effects unless you are particularly sensitive to it.

You’ll find you need more and more of the stuff to get the same intended effect, which is never a good thing for a supplement. If you do decide to use it, I would suggest you use it either sparingly (1 – 2 times per week), or not at all.

Went to a functional medicine MD who recommended Kavinace. I was concerned about the Phenibut, but he didn't seem to be. Why bother with it if you can only take it occasionally? Might as well stick with an occasional Xanax. -Irene

That would be an option as well, though you need a prescription for Xanax, while Kavinace is natural and doesn't require a prescription.- Rob

  1. Thanks Rob,

I’m wondering if I made a mistake going cold turkey. I’ve been on reddit non stop just reading about withdrawal stories.

It seems the insomnia is getting worse each night but it could be because I have a trip planned out of the country for a wedding that I’m leaving for tomorrow. I’m so stressed about having to go while withdrawing from phenibut.

    1. Yeah, it’s usually best to taper down off of phenibut. To be frank, though, 1 month isn’t a ridiculously long time to have been on it anyway.

If you would have came to me sooner and asked about a taper, I would only have given you like a 4 – 5 day taper schedule, max.
Do yourself a favor, stop reading the Reddit posts haha.

Seriously, just stop. It will only make things worse (in your head), and most of the stories you read on there are from people that have been on the stuff for many months, sometimes even years.

You’re gonna be fine, trust me.
  2. Hey Rob,

I’ve been suffering from anxiety and depression for about 2 years now. A lot of ups and downs for the most part.

I never believed in taking medications and strictly used excerise, eating healthy and distractions to help me get thru this. I was feeling pretty stable until mid January when my sleep started to get disrupted.

I took Kavinace Ultra PM on the advice of a friend thinking that it was an all natural supplement and it worked great.

Helped me to get good sleep again. I finished 1 bottle in the span of about a month and half and ordered a second bottle.

I did some digging around and found all this nasty stuff about phenibuts addictive and dangerous properties and also how hard the withdrawals are.

I had a mini panic attack when I read this because I thought I was using something all natural and I am someone who is anti medication. I stopped using the pills all together about 4-5 nights ago and I am feeling so awful.

Depression, anxiety, derealization are at an all time high and my sleep is horrible. I just want to know how long the sleep will be affected?

I was taking 1 pill a night about every other night. Some nights I would take it every night depending on what stressors I had going on.

And advice would be appreacited! Thank you.

    1. Hey Sean,
Yeah this is a huge problem with Kavinace. If you read some of the other comments on this page, you’ll see that others have the same issue. Their “doctors” claim that Kavinace is not addicting, when nothing could be further from the truth.

If you’ve only been on it for a month, the insomnia will only last a couple more days at most. You might have some lingering depression and anxiety for a little longer (maybe 1 – 2 weeks), but those too will also subside once your sleep quality returns.

If you want something to help for sleep, you might want to check out Rest Up sleep aid. I’ve recommended it to several other people on this page, and it’s an absolute godsend for sleep during Phenibut withdrawal. Here’s their site: http://www.RestUp.com

Don’t worry man, you’ll be fine. As I’ve stated in several other comments, sometimes the worst part of Phenibut withdrawal is just thinking about it. Best of luck and let me know if you have any other questions.
  3. Hi rob,
I need your advice. I have been taking 2 Kavinace a night for practically 2+ years.

Just recently started not to work so added the Kavinace pm during a stressful out of country trip and slept well. (Even doubled the dose certain nights out of country which would have been 4 kavinace and 2 pm kavinace most nights just to get through without freaking out) Now I’m home and not resting well. I think my body wants more. (Tolerance) I have been basically not sleeping all week until finally crashed one night out of desperation after not sleeping hardly a wink for 5 days.

Right now I’m just on 2 regular Kavinace but am feeling the withdrawal and feel super anxious about getting through this process. Obviously the Kavinace is not working for me anymore but I can’t just go cold turkey.

What do you recommend? Please help!

    I hope I can get through this…
    1. Hey Melanie,
Sorry to hear that. You’ll make it through, often the thought of the future withdrawal is worse than the withdrawal itself!

You’ve been on Kavinace for a long time, but not ridiculously long. I would recommend tapering down over a period of a couple weeks or so.

Start by dumping out half of one of the capsules, and take 1.5 capsules each night for about 2 weeks. Then knock it down to 1 full capsule each night for 2 weeks.

Then knock it down to a half capsule each night for 2 weeks, etc.

The longer you stretch it out the easier it will be.

I think I’m going to write up some some kind of tapering / how-to guide to getting off of Kaviance (Phenibut) for you guys. I get these kinds of questions all the time, so I know there are a ton of people out there that are either too scared to ask or don’t know where to begin.

If this sounds like something you guys would be interested in, let me know in the comments below.
      1. Thank you for your response, Rob. I’ll do what you recommend- I did something similar when trying to wean off full caffeinated coffee to decaf- just replaced a tsp every day or two.

Until before I knew it was all decaf. Tons better than going cold turkey.

So I’ll use that approach for the kavinace. Thank you for all your info.

I think a write up would be great about how to wean off and help out a lot of people. One more question- I have had nightmares/vivid dreams for awhile now (maybe corresponding with kavinace intake?) did you experience this?

Is it a typical side effect? I hope it will go away as I wean off kavinace.

        1. Yeah tapering is the way to go for sure. It will keep the withdrawals to a bare minimum, if you experience them at all.

As for the nightmares / vivid dreams, yeah if I remember correctly I did have some pretty vivid dreams while taking Phenibut (active ingredient in Kavinace).

I don’t specifically remember having nightmares though. I suspect that they will go away as you wean off the Kavinace.

      2. I just did the same thing on cutting down on Ambian after taking 7.5 pill for four or five years. Just keep cutting as long as it takes.

        I thought it was easy.
        1. Yup exactly. Basically what Bette says is the way to go.

The timeline I gave you was just a suggestion, but you can stretch it out as long as you’re comfortable with. Just don’t revert back to a higher dose along the way!

    2. Oh one other thing, for sleep I would recommend a supplement called Rest Up. I’ve recommended it to a bunch of people on here and in emails, and it’s an absolute godsend if you’re experiencing insomnia issues from the comedown. Here’s their site – http://www.RestUp.com
          1. Please help. I took 8 pills over a time period of a month..each time I did not like the feelings so I quit.

Last one was 3 days ago. I don’t know if I should take a pill or go through this.

Last night was some shortness of breath and okay during the day. Tonight is stabbing pains and muscles hurt.

            Please advise
          2. Hey Carole,
If you haven’t taken any for 3 days and aren’t experiencing any withdrawals, you’re likely in the clear. I’ve never heard of those withdrawals (ie stabbing pains / hurt muscles) from Phenibut withdrawal, so it’s likely something else.

  4. Bypass withdrawals with Gabapentin? Well yes byut you’re trading one addictive drug for another and one you will have to address later.

I have my script. Have treated it for 3 days.

I’m highly sensitive to most droughts this being one of them and stragembut you can feel the Phenibut wothdrawals through the Gabapentin. After that the fibers on my clothes cause my body to itch everywhere.

I feel nothing like myself. Personally I haven’t a clue where I’m at pill wise on Kavinace now after 3 days but going to low dose, say two caps Phenibut tonight and see how I feel tomorrow.

If you can take Gabapentin go for it, just remember this stuff is hard core a lot of not so great reviews on the internet. After a very short time you are addicted.

However if my science project doesn’t work back to the Gabapentin. My primary uses Valium too.

No thanks on that either for personal reasons. I’d like to wake up tomorrow feeling like Mary Poppins but that’s doubtful.

I hit the ER Before the primary. Pray tell, why?

They told me to go elsewhere as in come on in and we’ll hang you out to dry and you can finish our month program after. No thanks lady!

I have to tell you that the primary’s office is where I got the Kavinace. He said it happens rarely, told me it wasn’t my fault.

Okay? Still not at the end of the so will keep you updated.

  5. After going through a prolonged tapered withdrawal from Xanax I had problems with sleep for years. My doctor suggested Kavinace pm.

I felt like I was in heaven! Six years later I am still taking one each night.

They stopped working a long time ago but I never let myself take more. Most nights I get little sleep however I still take them because I am afraid of withdrawal.

I have read all the comments and I have to say Im more than a little terrified to get off them after taking them for so very long. Will my sleep ever return?

I can handle everything but days and days of no sleep. I have only one pill to withdraw from but I have been on it for a very long time.

Which one is better to help me off this Alteril, RestUp or Gabapentin? Please whatever advice you can give.

    Thank you!
    1. Hey Gisela,
Man, I am absolutely amazed that doctors are giving this kind of advice out. For sleep, I would recommend you go with RestUp (http://www.RestUp.com).

From everything I’ve read, Gabapentin completely eliminates any withdrawal from phenibut, but I really don’t have any personal proof of this. It also has it’s own addictive potential, and you need to get a prescription from a dr.

The only other thing I was thinking about recommending to you guys would be a substance called Kratom. It’s basically a plant that can help dramatically with anxiety, pain, can help with insomnia related issues. However, just like with Kavinace it does have addictive potential.

With that said, if you’re only using it for a short period of time (i.e. 1 or 2 weeks) to get off of the KAvinace, you should be fine. I have a whole post dedicated to talking about how kratom can help with sleep, check it out here: https://www.supplementcritique.com/best-kratom-for-sleep/

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions!
  6. Rob, I don’t want to post a comment. Do the withdrawals calm down.

I’m miserable. In between titrations, in other words I’m on 3 and feeling terrible.

After a week wil I feel normal again and then drop another? I’m scared!

    1. Yeah it’s all part of the withdrawal process. I know the feeling….you feel like you’re never going to get better (I felt the same way).

Trust me, you WILL! Looking back at it, I think just the thought of the withdrawal was actually worse than the withdrawal itself! Just try to take your mind off of it.

Read a book, take a long walk, and try to get some exercise. You’ll get through this, don’t worry.

  7. I’ve been on Kavinace ultra pm for 3 years given to me by a naturopath. I asked the doctor another healthcare pro and a holistic doctor if it was addictive.

They all said no. I was suspicious but didn’t heed the warnings or some of the things I read.

Here I am taking 4 a night because you build a tolerance. I feel sick all day long, like a hangover feeling.

I Am trying to go off. Should I cut down to 3 then 2 and so on?

I did try cutting down and had some pretty freaky withdrawals but I’ve got to start functioning. I’m tired and shaky all day.

Seriously, the FDA should be on top of this stuff. I’m a mess!

    1. Hey Denise,
Yeah that is very irresponsible of them. It kind of reminds me of the time when I visited that supplement store and I asked her the same thing…She told me no. Yeah I would do a very slow taper. You’ve been on it for a long time, so it will take awhile to get off the stuff.

I would recommend doing it like this:

Week 1: Take 3 a day. 1 in the morning, 1 in the afternoon, and 1 at night, all on an empty stomach.

Week 2: Take 2 a day. 1 in the am and 1 about an hour before bed.

Week 3: Take 1 a day. Your best bet here would be to take it at night.

Week 4: Take 1 every other day.

If you’re having issues with insomnia, pick up a bottle of RestUp. It helped me sleep when I was going through phenibut withdrawals, and it’s an absolute godsend for those nights staring at your clock. Here’s their site – http://www.RestUp.com

You may also want to pick up some l-theanine. It’s not going to completely eliminate the withdrawals, but it will help to take the edge off. Absorb Your Health has some high quality stuff at a reasonable price, here’s their site – https://www.absorbyourhealth.com/product/l-theanine-200mg-100-capsules-relaxation-support/?ref=4349

You can get through this! Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions.
      1. Thanks Rob, I’ll give it a try. So stupid, the doctor is head of the office where the naturopath recommended it.

The dietician in that office told me no as well as the doctor. The holistic doctor from another office looked at the bottle and said it was just amino acids.

I refuse to freak out over this.

I’ll try your titration. I’m assuming spreading them out will keep me from having severe withdrawal during the day?

I never experienced any problems with this stuff when on 2 a night although I wasn’t trying to get off of them but was function fine during the day. It’s only been in the last year that I started taking more.

I suppose I ignored some of the warning signs because before this I couldn’t slept or slept poorly, waking every hour and 1/2 nightly. In fact I was suspicious the first time I took it because it knocked flat out.

Like wow, this stuff must be addictive, the too good to be true syndrome. Why I started asking “Professionals” their opinions.

I did some research and said the heck with it, I was sleeping. That was on 2. After feeling, like more then crap on 4 I really dug in to the internet and of course freaked! Here I am.

        Ha!
        1. Haha, yeah that’s how it starts. I was in your shoes about….maybe 3 years ago?

Found out about it and it was great! Was sleeping great, felt more focused and energetic throughout the day, etc. As usual, if it’s too good to be true it usually is!

Yeah the slow taper will basically allow your body to adapt to being without the stuff. One other thing you might want to check out is Gabapentin.

It’s a drug so you’d have to see your doctor, but apparently it’s a godsend for phenibut withdrawal.

I’ve never actually used it though, and from what I understand it also has dependency / addiction issues, so if you decide to go that route just use sparingly (ie only for nights you REALLY can’t get to sleep).
Keep me posted and let me know how it works out!

        2. I Appreciate your help. Wow, I should have proofread my last post.

          Lol. What a mess.

Another symptom of Kavinace, brain fog. Thanks again.

I’m surprised this page isn’t loaded with posts. I know the stuff sells out at the doctors office like candy.

I get mine off the internet. I haven’t been back to his office for awhile but I bet he wouldn’t be thrilled with me and an armful of paperwork with the info on the addictive properties of Phenibut and aka Kavinace Ultra PM.

I’m glad I never tried it straight but then the company won’t disclose the amount of Phenibut in their product which is really suspect.

I was drunk on it when I first used it.

Running into walls in the middle of the night. I slept through the night the first time I took it, 1 pill.

First time in forever. It was heaven.

Don’t post this, just a note back as I’m sure you know.

You look seriously familiar from the internet but where I’m not sure. I’ll let you know how it goes soon.

My daughter says she would just quit for 3 days and die and get it over with. I don’t have the guts after the first bout of withdrawals.

I was nuts. I’m not embarrassed because the medical community doesn’t know what they’re doing.

I’ve thought about emergency, going back to Lundquist or another doctor but not sure I want to get caught up in another mess.

I’m fed up with some aspects of the medical community at the moment so I could talk forever. Thanks again, Denise

  8. Started taking K Ultra PM last night 1 pill with 1 pill of Calm CP and 1 mg of Xanax. Laid in bed for 3 hours so took 1 more pill of the KUPM and Calm CP.

Laid in another 1 1/2 hours. After reading the reviews I feel like its better to go back to Xanax and wine. ?

It would cost me about $97 a month to keep these 2 pills up giving my doctor a profit of $15 a month just from those 2 pills not to mention the others she recommends. Even CBD oil with THC sounds like a better option.

But that could just the lousy 5 hours of sleep and the headache talking. Side note: got rid of sleep apnea years ago after losing weight husband said I stopped breathing a lot last night.

  9. hi rob,
my naturopath put me on kavinace ultra pm. i have been on it for 4 months. i started out taking 1 pill and now take 2 every night. problem is, it has stopped working. it works for 5 days and then stops. i’ve tried Rx medications (ambien, trazadone, etc) but all of them make me feel horrible the next day.
i’m looking for a safe and easy (is this possible?) way to wean off kavinace ultra PM. Specifics would be helpful.

Like how much melatonin and theanine and gaba and 5-htp to take and how to taper.
    thanks for your website, maura
    1. Hey Maura,
Sorry for the late reply. I would suggest you back off to one pill a night for 2 weeks, then take a 1/2 pill every night for 2 weeks, then stop. It won’t be easy, but it should be safe. I would also recommend taking a sleep aid like Restup (http://www.RestUp.com) if you start to experience any insomnia issues, it will help knock you out.
      1. I am down to 2and half mg of ambian from 7 and half. The doctor gave me k ultra pm, but only took twice.

After reading your reply’s I don’t want to take the K, but need to take something to help me sleep while cutting. Took half of 3mg of melatonin last two nites but did not work too well.

        Would RestUp work better?
        1. Hey Mary,
Yeah the Kavinace is just as addictive as Ambien, maybe even worse. Melatonin is great, but on it’s own it doesn’t really help initiate sleep or keep you in a deep slumber. Rest Up should definitely do the trick, here’s their site – http://www.RestUp.com

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions.
          1. Hey Mary,
Here’s the full ingredients list: L-Theanine, 5-HTP, Melatonin, Bioperine, and Niagen. They actually have a full list of ingredients right on their homepage, http://www.RestUp.com

Unfortunately I don’t have a full review of it up yet, but I intend on getting one up soon.
  10. I really need something like kavinace for sleep, but don’t want to get addicted. What other supplements work as well, without addictive qualities?

  11. I wish I had done my research and found this website before I started taking this stuff. I got it from an acupuncturist and yes, it works amazingly well for sleep.

I slept all through the night for the entire 30 days but just ran out of them and didn’t have time to go back to the acupuncturist and buy more. Since then I have had terrible problems with insomnia.

Last night I wasn’t able to fall sleep until 3 AM! I don’t recommend that anyone take this because it seems to make your sleep problem much worse in the long run.

I am grateful for this information because now I know what’s going on with me.
  12. Hi. I think I entered Kavinace tolerance.

I started feeling horrible depression like out of the blue and anxiety, gripping fear, crazy dreads and the like.

I’m taking 4 pills at night and occasional (now becoming daily slowly), another pill in the late morning/afternoon.

How do I help me fear/mood system after taking for approx 2 months , daily? I cannot handle severe withdrawal as I’m already suffering debilitating w/d from tolerance!

    Please assist.

BTW, this product was given to me by a highly licensed and caring natropath so I’m surprised at her willingness to give this to me and the allowance of “taking 4 per day, not too bad. You’re suffering so it’s ok”.

    Baffled

    1. Hey Chaim,
Yeah, it’s sort of irresponsible isn’t it? You’re probably not going to want to hear this, but your best bet is to do a slow taper off the stuff. Start by eliminating that pill in the late morning for a couple days, and then step down to 3 pills per night for like 2 weeks, then 2 pills per night for 2 weeks, and so forth.

The biggest issue you’re gonna have is obviously a resurgence of your anxiety symptoms and some minor withdraws, but doing a slow taper will help to keep it to a minimum. For sleep issues, I would load up on melatonin, valerian root, and gaba, and for your daytime anxiety I would recommend 200 mg of L-Theanine. None of these are addictive / cause any sort of withdrawal, and will help with your taper process dramatically.

I get mine from Absorb Your Health, cheap but VERY effective. Here’s links to each –

      Melatonin – https://www.absorbyourhealth.com/product/melatonin/?ref=4349

      Valerien Root – https://www.absorbyourhealth.com/product/valerian-root-extract-101-450mg-100-capsules-relaxation-support/?ref=4349

      GABA – https://www.absorbyourhealth.com/product/gaba-3/?ref=4349

      L-Theanine – https://www.absorbyourhealth.com/product/l-theanine-200mg-100-capsules-relaxation-support/?ref=4349

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions.

p.s. if you’re not completely averse to pharmaceuticals, let me know and I can make some recommendations there as well.
  13. Been taking Kavinace Ultra PM for a year. Ran out of it and felt jittery and could not sleep.

Looked up phenibut and was so alarmed at the withdrawal symptoms, I called the company to find out exactly how much phenibut is in each capsule so I can pull them apart and titrate down. They refused to tell me, saying it’s “proprietary”.

Do you know the breakdown of the 650 mg phenibut/5-htp formula?
    1. Hey Jane,
Nice of them to help you out in your time of need, right? (sarcasm) I really don’t have any idea either. What I would suggest is just taper down normally, ie dump out a little bit of the capsule and take that dosage for 2 weeks.

Then dump out a little bit more, take that for 2 weeks, and so on.

Phenibut withdrawal is no fun, but the longer you spread out the taper the easier it will be. One other thing I’ve heard of is taking Gabapentin (RX required).

I’ve never taken it before, but I’ve read about it on countless forums, and it sounds like it completely eliminates the withdrawal and is relatively easy to get from a doctor.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions.
  14. Thank you for your response. I’m so freaked out by this experience that I will never trust another supplement as long as I live.

  15. I was never told of the withdrawal or problems with kavinace. I was taking 1-2 every night for months.

I recently stopped and went into this horrible withdrawal. I am very scared because I’ve never experienced anything like this in my life.

Please help me to understand what is happening and how long this may last!
    1. Hey Melissa,
Sorry for the late reply. Because Kavinace contains a substance called Phenibut, it has some pretty harsh withdrawals if you use it for any length of time. Rather than go into a lengthy discussion about it here, check out this site: https://americanaddictioncenters.org/withdrawal-timelines-treatments/phenibut/

It has a really good overview of what happens when you take it for a long time.

The good news is, you’ll likely survive 😉 Most Phenibut withdrawals only last for a few days, to as much as a week tops. I ALWAYS recommend that you use phenibut sparingly, once or twice a week at MOST.

Let me know if you have any other questions, I’ve been in the same boat as you and I know it’s nice to have someone to talk to about this stuff.
      1. It’s been 5 days and I am still unable to sleep. The physical withdrawals seem to have subsided a lot and the horrible depression is over but the insomnia is still there.

When does that subside? It’s unbelievable that this powerful drug is hidden in this supplement that is being given to patients by health care providers.

        1. Well, it’s not even a prescribed drug, so it’s not necessarily being given by health care providers. Check out a supplement called Alteril. It’s a great sleep aid that knocked me out when I was going through Phenibut withdrawals. Here’s their site: https://www.orderalteril.com/ct/134391

Also, I saw your message on the brain fog. That’s kind of tough to answer. You were on it for quite a long time, so it will take awhile to get back to normal. I would recommend you check out a supplement called Mind Lab Pro. It doesn’t contain ANY addictive ingredients, there’s no withdrawal whatsoever, and it’s great for lifting brain fog.

          Here’s my review: https://www.supplementcritique.com/mind-lab-pro-review-and-results/

          and here’s their site – https://www.mindlabpro.com

Sorry to hear you’re going through this. I know it feels like you may have messed up your brain for good, but I was taking it WAY longer than you were and I’m totally fine.
        2. Also, do you think you could leave a review here on our site? Just click the “Submit your own review” at the top of the page and I’ll get it approved right away.

          Thanks!
  16. Hey,

can you recommend a good nootropic that only has short time benefits? Ideally the effect should last about 3-10 hours and the nootropic shouldn´t effect me much in the long run (neither positively nor negatively).

At best, the effect of the nootropic should not go beyond 3 – 10 hours.
